The DEFA1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB6897) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the DEFA1 gene, which encodes defensin alpha 1, an antimicrobial peptide involved in innate immune defense. This antibody, generated in rabbits, has high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in applications such as Western blotting.Defensin alpha 1 is known for its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, making it a key player in the body's defense against pathogens.
Research involving DEFA1 is crucial for understanding how the immune system fights off infections and how this knowledge can be harnessed for therapeutic purposes.By using the DEFA1 Polyclonal Antibody, researchers can accurately detect and analyze the expression of defensin alpha 1 in various cell types, providing valuable insights into the immune response and potential targets for drug development in the field of infectious diseases and immunology.

Defensins are a family of antimicrobial and cytotoxic peptides thought to be involved in host defense. They are abundant in the granules of neutrophils and also found in the epithelia of mucosal surfaces such as those of the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence and distinguished by a conserved cysteine motif. The protein encoded by this gene, defensin, alpha 1, is found in the microbicidal granules of neutrophils and likely plays a role in phagocyte-mediated host defense. Several alpha defensin genes are clustered on chromosome 8. This gene differs from defensin, alpha 3 by only one amino acid. This gene and the gene encoding defensin, alpha 3 are both subject to copy number variation.
