The DAO Polyclonal Antibody (CAB5309) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO), which plays a crucial role in histamine metabolism and the regulation of inflammatory responses. This antibody, produced in rabbits, has high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By specifically binding to DAO, researchers can detect and analyze the enzyme in various cell types, making it an ideal choice for studies in immunology, allergy research, and gastrointestinal disorders.
DAO, as an enzyme responsible for breaking down histamine, is important in maintaining immune and digestive system balance. Dysregulation of DAO activity has been implicated in conditions such as histamine intolerance, allergies, and inflammatory bowel disease. By understanding the function of DAO, researchers can develop targeted therapies for these conditions, advancing our knowledge of immune and digestive system function.

This gene encodes the peroxisomal enzyme D-amino acid oxidase. The enzyme is a flavoprotein which uses flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) as its prosthetic group. Its substrates include a wide variety of D-amino acids, but it is inactive on the naturally occurring L-amino acids. Its biological function is not known; it may act as a detoxifying agent which removes D-amino acids that accumulate during aging. In mice, it degrades D-serine, a co-agonist of the NMDA receptor. This gene may play a role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia.
