The CYP46A1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB8573) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the enzyme CYP46A1, which plays a crucial role in cholesterol metabolism in the brain. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific to human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the CYP46A1 protein, this antibody allows for the detection and analysis of CYP46A1 in various cell types, making it an ideal choice for studies in neuroscience and lipid metabolism research.
CYP46A1 is primarily expressed in the brain and is responsible for converting cholesterol into a form that can be removed from the central nervous system. Dysregulation of CYP46A1 has been implicated in various neurological disorders, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions. Understanding the role of CYP46A1 in cholesterol homeostasis in the brain is essential for developing treatments for conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Immunogen:
Recombinant fusion protein containing a sequence corresponding to amino acids 24-280 of human CYP46A1 (NP_006659.1).
This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This endoplasmic reticulum protein is expressed in the brain, where it converts cholesterol to 24S-hydroxycholesterol. While cholesterol cannot pass the blood-brain barrier, 24S-hydroxycholesterol can be secreted in the brain into the circulation to be returned to the liver for catabolism.
