The CYP17A1 Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (CAB5067) is a powerful tool for researchers studying the CYP17A1 enzyme, which plays a key role in steroid hormone biosynthesis. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high specificity and sensitivity towards human samples, making it ideal for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the CYP17A1 protein, researchers can accurately detect and analyze its expression in various cell types, enabling detailed investigations in fields such as endocrinology and cancer research.
CYP17A1 is a critical enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of steroid hormones, including cortisol and sex hormones like estrogen and androgens. Dysregulation of CYP17A1 has been linked to various endocrine disorders and hormone-dependent cancers, highlighting its importance as a therapeutic target. Understanding the role of CYP17A1 in hormone synthesis and metabolism is essential for developing targeted therapies and improving treatment strategies for hormone-related conditions.

This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum. It has both 17alpha-hydroxylase and 17,20-lyase activities and is a key enzyme in the steroidogenic pathway that produces progestins, mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens, and estrogens. Mutations in this gene are associated with isolated steroid-17 alpha-hydroxylase deficiency, 17-alpha-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency, pseudohermaphroditism, and adrenal hyperplasia.
