The CYP17A1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1373) is specifically designed for research involving CYP17A1, an enzyme involved in steroid hormone biosynthesis. This antibody, raised in rabbits, is highly reactive with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the CYP17A1 protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in various cell types, making it an essential tool for studies in endocrinology and reproductive research.CYP17A1, also known as cytochrome P450 17A1, plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of hormones such as cortisol and sex steroids.
Dysregulation of CYP17A1 has been linked to diseases like polycystic ovary syndrome, breast cancer, and prostate cancer, making it a valuable target for research into hormone-related disorders. Understanding the function and expression of CYP17A1 is essential for developing targeted therapies that regulate hormone production in these conditions.

This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins are monooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum. It has both 17alpha-hydroxylase and 17,20-lyase activities and is a key enzyme in the steroidogenic pathway that produces progestins, mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens, and estrogens. Mutations in this gene are associated with isolated steroid-17 alpha-hydroxylase deficiency, 17-alpha-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency, pseudohermaphroditism, and adrenal hyperplasia.
