The CPS1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB8080) is a valuable tool for research involving CPS1, a crucial enzyme in the urea cycle responsible for converting ammonia into urea. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By specifically binding to the CPS1 protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it ideal for studies related to metabolism, liver function, and urea cycle disorders.
CPS1 plays a vital role in maintaining nitrogen balance in the body and is essential for detoxifying ammonia, a waste product of protein metabolism. Dysregulation of CPS1 activity can lead to hyperammonemia and related disorders, making it a target of interest in research on metabolic diseases and liver dysfunction. By studying CPS1 with this polyclonal antibody, researchers can gain insights into the mechanisms underlying these conditions and potentially develop novel therapeutic interventions.

The mitochondrial enzyme encoded by this gene catalyzes synthesis of carbamoyl phosphate from ammonia and bicarbonate. This reaction is the first committed step of the urea cycle, which is important in the removal of excess urea from cells. The encoded protein may also represent a core mitochondrial nucleoid protein. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The shortest isoform may not be localized to the mitochondrion. Mutations in this gene have been associated with carbamoyl phosphate synthetase deficiency, susceptibility to persistent pulmonary hypertension, and susceptibility to venoocclusive disease after bone marrow transplantation.
