The CPS1 Polyclonal Antibody (AB10015) is a valuable tool for researchers studying Carbamoyl-phosphate synthase, an enzyme that plays a key role in the urea cycle. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been validated for use in applications such as Western blotting. By binding to CPS1, the antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it ideal for research in biochemistry and metabolism.
CPS1 is essential for the conversion of ammonia into urea, a process critical for the removal of toxic nitrogen waste from the body. Dysregulation of CPS1 activity can lead to serious metabolic disorders, making it a target of interest for studies on conditions like hyperammonemia and urea cycle disorders. Understanding the function of CPS1 is vital for developing therapies to treat these diseases and improve patient outcomes.

The mitochondrial enzyme encoded by this gene catalyzes synthesis of carbamoyl phosphate from ammonia and bicarbonate. This reaction is the first committed step of the urea cycle, which is important in the removal of excess urea from cells. The encoded protein may also represent a core mitochondrial nucleoid protein. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The shortest isoform may not be localized to the mitochondrion. Mutations in this gene have been associated with carbamoyl phosphate synthetase deficiency, susceptibility to persistent pulmonary hypertension, and susceptibility to venoocclusive disease after bone marrow transplantation.
