The COMT Polyclonal Antibody (CAB6200) is a valuable tool for researchers studying COMT, an enzyme involved in the regulation of neurotransmitters such as dopamine. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific to human samples and is validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the COMT protein, this antibody enables researchers to detect and analyze its expression in various cell types, making it ideal for studies in neuroscience and psychiatric disorders.COMT, also known as catechol-O-methyltransferase, plays a crucial role in the breakdown of catecholamines, which are neurotransmitters essential for various physiological functions including mood regulation and stress response.
Dysregulation of COMT activity has been implicated in conditions such as Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, and addiction. By understanding the function of COMT, researchers can uncover insights into the pathophysiology of these disorders and potentially develop new therapeutic strategies for treatment.

Catechol-O-methyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation results in one of the major degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. In addition to its role in the metabolism of endogenous substances, COMT is important in the metabolism of catechol drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson disease. COMT is found in two forms in tissues, a soluble form (S-COMT) and a membrane-bound form (MB-COMT). The differences between S-COMT and MB-COMT reside within the N-termini. Several transcript variants are formed through the use of alternative translation initiation sites and promoters.
