The COL6A1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB9236) is a valuable tool for researchers studying collagen alpha-1 (VI) chain, a key component of the extracellular matrix. This antibody, produced in rabbits, demonstrates high reactivity with human samples and is suitable for use in Western blot applications. By specifically binding to the COL6A1 protein, this antibody allows for the detection and analysis of collagen VI in various cell types, making it an essential tool for investigations in connective tissue disorders, musculoskeletal diseases, and fibrosis research.
Collagen alpha-1 (VI) chain is essential for the structural integrity and function of multiple tissues, including skin, cartilage, and muscle. Dysregulation of COL6A1 expression is associated with a range of pathologies, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions. Understanding the role of COL6A1 in disease pathogenesis is crucial for the development of novel treatments aimed at restoring tissue homeostasis and function.

The collagens are a superfamily of proteins that play a role in maintaining the integrity of various tissues. Collagens are extracellular matrix proteins and have a triple-helical domain as their common structural element. Collagen VI is a major structural component of microfibrils. The basic structural unit of collagen VI is a heterotrimer of the alpha1(VI), alpha2(VI), and alpha3(VI) chains. The alpha2(VI) and alpha3(VI) chains are encoded by the COL6A2 and COL6A3 genes, respectively. The protein encoded by this gene is the alpha 1 subunit of type VI collagen (alpha1(VI) chain). Mutations in the genes that code for the collagen VI subunits result in the autosomal dominant disorder, Bethlem myopathy.
