The COL5A1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1515) is a valuable tool for researchers studying COL5A1, a crucial component of type V collagen that plays a key role in tissue structure and function. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been rigorously validated for use in Western blot applications.COL5A1 is essential for the proper assembly of collagen fibrils, especially in connective tissues such as skin, tendons, and ligaments. Dysregulation of COL5A1 expression has been linked to various connective tissue disorders, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and osteogenesis imperfecta.
By targeting COL5A1 with this specific antibody, researchers can investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases and potentially develop therapeutic interventions. The ability of this antibody to detect and analyze COL5A1 in different cell types makes it an ideal choice for studies in structural biology, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine. By gaining a deeper understanding of COL5A1 function, researchers can make significant strides in advancing our knowledge of connective tissue disorders and developing novel treatment strategies.

This gene encodes an alpha chain for one of the low abundance fibrillar collagens. Fibrillar collagen molecules are trimers that can be composed of one or more types of alpha chains. Type V collagen is found in tissues containing type I collagen and appears to regulate the assembly of heterotypic fibers composed of both type I and type V collagen. This gene product is closely related to type XI collagen and it is possible that the collagen chains of types V and XI constitute a single collagen type with tissue-specific chain combinations. The encoded procollagen protein occurs commonly as the heterotrimer pro-alpha1(V)-pro-alpha1(V)-pro-alpha2(V). Mutations in this gene are associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, types I and II. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants.
