The COL4A1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB10710) is a valuable tool for researchers studying COL4A1, a key component of type IV collagen found in the extracellular matrix. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the COL4A1 protein, this antibody allows for precise detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it ideal for investigations in cell biology, developmental biology, and disease pathology.
COL4A1 is essential for maintaining the structure and function of basement membranes, making it crucial for processes like cell adhesion, differentiation, and tissue development. Mutations in COL4A1 have been linked to various pathologies, including vascular defects, kidney disease, and neurological disorders. By studying the expression and function of COL4A1, researchers can gain insights into these diseases and potentially identify new therapeutic targets for intervention.

This gene encodes a type IV collagen alpha protein. Type IV collagen proteins are integral components of basement membranes. This gene shares a bidirectional promoter with a paralogous gene on the opposite strand. The protein consists of an amino-terminal 7S domain, a triple-helix forming collagenous domain, and a carboxy-terminal non-collagenous domain. It functions as part of a heterotrimer and interacts with other extracellular matrix components such as perlecans, proteoglycans, and laminins. In addition, proteolytic cleavage of the non-collagenous carboxy-terminal domain results in a biologically active fragment known as arresten, which has anti-angiogenic and tumor suppressor properties. Mutations in this gene cause porencephaly, cerebrovascular disease, and renal and muscular defects. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
