The CD46 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1653) is a valuable tool for researchers studying CD46, a cell surface protein involved in immune regulation and complement activation. This antibody, produced in rabbits, shows high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in various applications, including Western blotting.CD46, also known as membrane cofactor protein (MCP), plays a crucial role in protecting cells from complement attack and regulating immune responses. Dysregulation of CD46 has been linked to various diseases, including autoimmune disorders and infectious diseases.
By targeting CD46 with this antibody, researchers can gain insights into its function and potential therapeutic interventions. With its ability to specifically bind to CD46, this polyclonal antibody is a valuable tool for studies in immunology, infectious diseases, and autoimmunity. Its use can help uncover the mechanisms underlying CD46's role in health and disease, ultimately leading to the development of new treatments and therapies.

The protein encoded by this gene is a type I membrane protein and is a regulatory part of the complement system. The encoded protein has cofactor activity for inactivation of complement components C3b and C4b by serum factor I, which protects the host cell from damage by complement. In addition, the encoded protein can act as a receptor for the Edmonston strain of measles virus, human herpesvirus-6, and type IV pili of pathogenic Neisseria. Finally, the protein encoded by this gene may be involved in the fusion of the spermatozoa with the oocyte during fertilization. Mutations at this locus have been associated with susceptibility to hemolytic uremic syndrome. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
