Description
CD163 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB24841)
The CD163 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB24841) is a valuable tool for researchers studying CD163, a scavenger receptor protein primarily found on macrophages and monocytes. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific and reacts with human samples, making it ideal for immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence studies. By binding to the CD163 protein, researchers can identify and study the expression and localization of CD163 in various tissues and cell types.
CD163 is known for its role in scavenging hemoglobin-haptoglobin complexes and regulating inflammation and immune responses. Its involvement in certain diseases, such as sepsis, cardiovascular diseases, and various cancers, makes it a target of interest for researchers in the fields of immunology and biomedicine. Understanding the function of CD163 can lead to potential therapeutic interventions and diagnostic applications in the future.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily, and is exclusively expressed in monocytes and macrophages. It functions as an acute phase-regulated receptor involved in the clearance and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages, and may thereby protect tissues from free hemoglobin-mediated oxidative damage. This protein may also function as an innate immune sensor for bacteria and inducer of local inflammation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
