The CBS Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1427) is a valuable tool for researchers studying CBS, an enzyme involved in the cysteine metabolism pathway. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and is suitable for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the CBS protein, this antibody allows for the detection and analysis of CBS levels in various cell types, making it ideal for research in fields such as metabolism, biochemistry, and genetic disorders.CBS, also known as cystathionine beta-synthase, plays a pivotal role in maintaining the balance of sulfur-containing amino acids in the body.
Dysregulation of CBS activity is linked to various diseases, including homocystinuria and cardiovascular disorders. Understanding the function and regulation of CBS is essential for developing therapeutic strategies to treat these conditions and improve patient outcomes. The CBS Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1427) provides researchers with a reliable tool for studying CBS and its associated pathways, contributing to advances in the field of molecular biology and medicine.

Recombinant fusion protein containing a sequence corresponding to amino acids 1-384 of human CBS (NP_000062.1).
The protein encoded by this gene acts as a homotetramer to catalyze the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine, the first step in the transsulfuration pathway. The encoded protein is allosterically activated by adenosyl-methionine and uses pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. Defects in this gene can cause cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD), which can lead to homocystinuria. This gene is a major contributor to cellular hydrogen sulfide production. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
