The CAST Polyclonal Antibody (CAB0097) is specifically designed for research involving CAST, a cell surface molecule with important roles in immune regulation. Produced through immunization of rabbits, this antibody exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the CAST protein, researchers can accurately detect and analyze its presence in various cell types, making it an invaluable tool for studies in immunology and cancer research.
CAST, also known as Calpastatin, is a key player in immune response modulation, playing a crucial role in regulating inflammatory processes and inhibiting allergic reactions. Its implications in immune homeostasis make it a promising target for research in diseases such as cancer, autoimmune disorders, and chronic inflammatory conditions. Understanding the function of CAST is vital for the development of targeted therapies that can either enhance or modulate immune responses in these disease contexts.

The protein encoded by this gene is an endogenous calpain (calcium-dependent cysteine protease) inhibitor. It consists of an N-terminal domain L and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (domains 1-4), and it is involved in the proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein. The calpain/calpastatin system is involved in numerous membrane fusion events, such as neural vesicle exocytosis and platelet and red-cell aggregation. The encoded protein is also thought to affect the expression levels of genes encoding structural or regulatory proteins. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
