Description
BHMT2 Antibody (PACO33132)
The BHMT2 Polyclonal Antibody (PACO33132) is a valuable tool for researchers studying BHMT2, a key enzyme involved in the methionine cycle and liver function. The antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. Its ability to specifically bind to the BHMT2 protein allows for precise detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it an essential tool for studies in metabolism, liver biology, and potential therapeutic interventions.
BHMT2, also known as betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase 2, plays a crucial role in maintaining methionine levels and methyl group balance in the body. Dysregulation of BHMT2 has been linked to metabolic disorders, liver diseases, and cardiovascular conditions, underscoring its importance in overall health and well-being. By understanding the function and regulation of BHMT2, researchers can explore novel treatment strategies and interventions for conditions related to methionine metabolism and liver health.

UniProt Protein Details: | |
NCBI Summary: | Homocysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid that plays a crucial role in methylation reactions. Transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine creates methionine, which donates the methyl group to methylate DNA, proteins, lipids, and other intracellular metabolites. The protein encoded by this gene is one of two methyl transferases that can catalyze the transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine. Anomalies in homocysteine metabolism have been implicated in disorders ranging from vascular disease to neural tube birth defects such as spina bifida. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2010] |
