The Best1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB14070) is a powerful tool for researchers studying Best1, a calcium-activated chloride channel involved in cellular calcium signaling and fluid homeostasis. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the Best1 protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it an essential tool for studies in cell biology and physiology.
Best1 is a crucial player in the regulation of calcium signaling and fluid transport in various tissues, particularly in the retina and kidney. Dysregulation of Best1 has been linked to disorders such as Best vitelliform macular dystrophy and renal pathologies. Investigating the function and expression of Best1 is essential for understanding its role in health and disease, paving the way for potential therapeutic interventions in the future.

This gene encodes a member of the bestrophin gene family. This small gene family is characterized by proteins with a highly conserved N-terminus with four to six transmembrane domains. Bestrophins may form chloride ion channels or may regulate voltage-gated L-type calcium-ion channels. Bestrophins are generally believed to form calcium-activated chloride-ion channels in epithelial cells but they have also been shown to be highly permeable to bicarbonate ion transport in retinal tissue. Mutations in this gene are responsible for juvenile-onset vitelliform macular dystrophy (VMD2), also known as Best macular dystrophy, in addition to adult-onset vitelliform macular dystrophy (AVMD) and other retinopathies. Alternative splicing results in multiple variants encoding distinct isoforms.
