The BAK1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB0204) is designed for research involving BAK1, a protein involved in apoptotic pathways and cell death regulation. This antibody is raised in rabbits and is highly reactive with human samples, making it a reliable tool for studying the role of BAK1 in various biological processes.BAK1, also known as BCL2 antagonist/killer 1, is a key player in the intrinsic apoptotic pathway, regulating cell death by promoting mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization. Dysregulation of BAK1 has been implicated in diseases such as cancer, where evasion of apoptosis is a hallmark of tumorigenesis.
This antibody is validated for use in Western blot applications, enabling researchers to detect and analyze BAK1 protein levels in different cell types. By understanding the expression and activity of BAK1, researchers can gain insights into its role in disease pathology and potentially develop targeted therapies for conditions where BAK1 dysregulation is a factor.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the BCL2 protein family. BCL2 family members form oligomers or heterodimers and act as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators that are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. This protein localizes to mitochondria, and functions to induce apoptosis. It interacts with and accelerates the opening of the mitochondrial voltage-dependent anion channel, which leads to a loss in membrane potential and the release of cytochrome c. This protein also interacts with the tumor suppressor P53 after exposure to cell stress.
