The Antithrombin III Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1574) is a valuable tool for researchers studying antithrombin III, a key protein involved in regulating blood clotting and preventing excessive thrombosis. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications.Antithrombin III, a serine protease inhibitor, plays a critical role in the coagulation cascade by inhibiting factors Xa and IIa. Dysregulation of antithrombin III function has been linked to several clotting disorders, making it a focal point in research on thrombosis and related conditions.
By targeting the antithrombin III protein, this polyclonal antibody allows for precise detection and analysis of this essential molecule in various biological samples. Its utility extends to studies in hemostasis, vascular biology, and cardiovascular diseases, providing insights into the mechanisms underlying thrombotic events and informing potential therapeutic strategies for managing clotting disorders.

The protein encoded by this gene, antithrombin III, is a plasma protease inhibitor and a member of the serpin superfamily. This protein inhibits thrombin as well as other activated serine proteases of the coagulation system, and it regulates the blood coagulation cascade. The protein includes two functional domains: the heparin binding-domain at the N-terminus of the mature protein, and the reactive site domain at the C-terminus. The inhibitory activity is enhanced by the presence of heparin. Numerous mutations have been identified for this gene, many of which are known to cause antithrombin-III deficiency which constitutes a strong risk factor for thrombosis. A reduction in the serum level of this protein is associated with severe cases of Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19).
