The PRDM9 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB20340) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the PRDM9 protein, a key player in meiotic recombination and genetic diversity. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific to human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the PRDM9 protein, this antibody allows for the detection and analysis of PRDM9 in various cell types, making it an essential tool for studies in genetics and reproductive biology.PRDM9 is a histone methyltransferase that plays a crucial role in determining the location of meiotic recombination hotspots, influencing genetic diversity and evolution.
Understanding the function of PRDM9 is essential for unraveling the mechanisms of meiotic recombination and its impact on genetic variability. Research on PRDM9 has implications for fields such as evolutionary biology, population genetics, and reproductive health, making this antibody a valuable asset for scientists exploring these areas of study.

The protein encoded by this gene is a zinc finger protein with histone methyltransferase activity that catalyzes histone H3 lysine 4 trimethylation (H3K4me3) during meiotic prophase. This protein contains multiple domains, including a Kruppel-associated box (KRAB) domain, an SSX repression domain (SSXRD), a PRD1-BF1 and RIZ homologous region, a subclass of SET (PR/SET) domain, and a tandem array of C2H2 zinc fingers. The zinc finger array recognizes a short sequence motif, leading to local H3K4me3, and meiotic recombination hotspot activity. The observed allelic variation alters the DNA-binding sequence specificity of the protein, resulting in distinct meiotic recombination hotspots amongst individuals and populations. Multiple alternate alleles of this gene have been described.
