The GNE Polyclonal Antibody (CAB20978) is a valuable tool for researchers studying GNE, a key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of sialic acids. This antibody, raised in rabbits, is highly specific for GNE and has been validated for use in various applications, including Western blot and immunohistochemistry.GNE, also known as UDP-N-acetylglucosamine 2-epimerase/N-acetylmannosamine kinase, plays a crucial role in the production of sialic acids, which are important for cell-cell interactions, immune response, and development.
Dysregulation of GNE has been associated with various diseases, including hereditary inclusion body myopathy and sialuria.By using the GNE Polyclonal Antibody, researchers can accurately detect and analyze GNE expression in different tissues and cell types, providing valuable insights into its function and potential implications in disease. This antibody is a valuable tool for studies in glycobiology, muscular disorders, and glycosylation pathways.

The protein encoded by this gene is a bifunctional enzyme that initiates and regulates the biosynthesis of N-acetylneuraminic acid (NeuAc), a precursor of sialic acids. It is a rate-limiting enzyme in the sialic acid biosynthetic pathway. Sialic acid modification of cell surface molecules is crucial for their function in many biologic processes, including cell adhesion and signal transduction. Differential sialylation of cell surface molecules is also implicated in the tumorigenicity and metastatic behavior of malignant cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with sialuria, autosomal recessive inclusion body myopathy, and Nonaka myopathy. Alternative splicing of this gene results in transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
