The Anti-Alcohol Dehydrogenase Antibody (CAB19624) is a highly specific antibody designed for research involving alcohol dehydrogenase, an enzyme responsible for the metabolism of alcohol in the body. This antibody, raised in rabbits, is highly reactive with human samples and has been validated for use in various applications including Western blot and immunohistochemistry.Alcohol dehydrogenase plays a crucial role in the breakdown of alcohol into acetaldehyde, a toxic byproduct that can contribute to liver damage and other health issues. Studying the expression and activity of alcohol dehydrogenase is important for understanding alcohol metabolism, alcohol-related diseases, and potential treatment options.
This antibody binds specifically to alcohol dehydrogenase, enabling researchers to detect and analyze the enzyme in different tissues and cell types. By studying alcohol dehydrogenase, researchers can gain insights into the mechanisms behind alcohol metabolism and related diseases, leading to potential breakthroughs in the fields of alcohol research, liver disease, and drug development.

This gene encodes a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. The encoded protein is the alpha subunit of class I alcohol dehydrogenase, which consists of several homo- and heterodimers of alpha, beta and gamma subunits. Alcohol dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes. This gene is active in the liver in early fetal life but only weakly active in adult liver. This gene is found in a cluster with six additional alcohol dehydrogenase genes, including those encoding the beta and gamma subunits, on the long arm of chromosome 4. Mutations in this gene may contribute to variation in certain personality traits and substance dependence. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2010]
