Description
ALDH8A1 Antibody (PACO07691)
The ALDH8A1 Polyclonal Antibody (PACO07691) is a valuable tool for research involving ALDH8A1, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of aldehydes and retinoids. The antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. It binds specifically to the ALDH8A1 protein, allowing for efficient detection and analysis in various cell types.ALDH8A1 plays a crucial role in cellular detoxification and the synthesis of retinoic acid, making it a key player in processes such as embryonic development and differentiation. Dysregulation of ALDH8A1 has been implicated in various diseases, including metabolic disorders and certain types of cancer.
Understanding the function of ALDH8A1 is important for elucidating its role in disease pathogenesis and identifying potential therapeutic targets.Researchers studying the metabolism of aldehydes and retinoids, as well as those investigating the role of ALDH8A1 in specific disease processes, will benefit from the use of the ALDH8A1 Polyclonal Antibody. Its high specificity and reactivity make it an ideal tool for advancing knowledge in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.

UniProt Protein Function: | ALDH8A1: Converts 9-cis-retinal to 9-cis-retinoic acid. Has lower activity towards 13-cis-retinal. Has much lower activity towards all-trans-retinal. Has highest activity with benzaldehyde and decanal (in vitro). Has a preference for NAD, but shows considerable activity with NADP (in vitro). Belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |

NCBI Summary: | This protein belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenases family of proteins. It plays a role in a pathway of 9-cis-retinoic acid biosynthesis in vivo. This enzyme converts 9-cis-retinal into the retinoid X receptor ligand 9-cis-retinoic acid, and has approximately 40-fold higher activity with 9-cis-retinal than with all-trans-retinal. Therefore, it is the first known aldehyde dehydrogenase to show a preference for 9-cis-retinal relative to all-trans-retinal. Three transcript variants encoding distinct protein isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010] |
