The ABCC5 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB3028) is a valuable research tool designed for the study of ABCC5, a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for Western blot applications. By binding to the ABCC5 protein, this antibody enables the detection and analysis of ABCC5 in various cell types, making it an ideal choice for studies in pharmacology and toxicology.ABCC5 is known for its role in multidrug resistance, exporting a wide range of chemotherapeutic agents out of cells and contributing to treatment failure in cancer patients.
Understanding the mechanisms behind ABCC5 function is essential for developing strategies to overcome drug resistance and improve the efficacy of chemotherapy. Research into ABCC5 may also provide valuable insights into the metabolism and detoxification of xenobiotics, offering potential implications for drug development and personalized medicine.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven distinct subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White). This protein is a member of the MRP subfamily which is involved in multi-drug resistance. This protein functions in the cellular export of its substrate, cyclic nucleotides. This export contributes to the degradation of phosphodiesterases and possibly an elimination pathway for cyclic nucleotides. Studies show that this protein provides resistance to thiopurine anticancer drugs, 6-mercatopurine and thioguanine, and the anti-HIV drug 9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl)adenine. This protein may be involved in resistance to thiopurines in acute lymphoblastic leukemia and antiretroviral nucleoside analogs in HIV-infected patients. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
